Drinking water has so many health benefits but have you heard that drinking warm water has even more.
You should aim to drink around 2-3 litres of water per day starting as soon as you wake up in the morning. Your first drink should be a pint of warm water. This helps to flush out all of you toxins from the night before. Now if you are new to drinking water (and that's ok) you can start by having a little cup and then build up to have a pint of water in one go.
I used to suffer with UTI's when I was in my late teens so I then started to drink 1 pint every time I had a drink. It did take a few months to get used to it but the benefits are huge so why not just give it a try.
A Water Tip
A little tip I have is have a glass or cup in the bathroom so its easily accessible when you wake up. Run the warm tap until it runs warm and then fill your glass and drink. Another tip is to use that glass in the bathroom and when you go to the toilet, refill your glass with water. That way you are replenishing the water you've just lost.
Drinking hot or warm water can help aid digestion and if you suffer with cramps, bloatedness, trapped wind etc then this is a great way to help yourself. When you don't drink enough water, your small intestine absorbs most of the water consumed through food and drinking. This causes dehydration and can make it more difficult to have a bowel movement. Chronic dehydration can cause corresponding chronic constipation. This constipation can make bowel movements painful and may cause other problems, including haemorrhoids and bloating.
Drinking hot or warm water helps to break down food faster than drinking cold or warm water. It reduces the risk of constipation by supporting regular bowel movements.
Another amazing way the body helps rid itself of toxins is through sweating. If your have a warm drink this will increase your body temperature which may make you sweat, riding you of the toxins.
Aids Weight Loss
Warm water helps with weight loss, because it makes you feel fuller for longer. This is a good trick, drink a pint of water just before a meal as this will make you feel full and so you wont eat as much because you are tricking your body into thinking it feels full. Plus is will help flush out all the toxins your body needs to get rid of once you have eaten your food. This will then help with digestion again.
Hot water has been found to help reduce pain by helping the blood circulation throughout your body. If you suffer with tight muscles, then this is really helpful because it opens up the blood vessels to the muscles giving them more oxygen and allowing them to heal quicker.
Drinking warm or hot water has been found to reduce stress. This is because you are inhaling the steam which can have a profound effect on your mood. Feeling warm gives off nerve signals for the serotonin your calming hormone to help you reducing the cortisol in your system (your stress hormone). So next time you are feeling stressed, have a warm cup of water.
You can add fruit to your water. I love lemon in water. This also gives off a good amount of vitamin C which you also need to help your immune system. This helps to fight off coughs and colds and for you to feel better.
Here is a link to another blog post I wrote about consuming water if you fancied reading about that to.
