I Did Something Amazing...

Updated: Jan 28, 2021

I did something amazing on Tuesday. I gave blood.

More people need to think about becoming a blood donor. It takes less than an hour of your time every 4 months and can save someone's life. Now isn't that great. Be selfless just for once.

I am on my 17th blood donation now so I've helped save 17 people's lives. Come on people, if you know you can and are allowed then please do it. It can change a family's life forever. The reason of how I got into giving blood was in 2006. My husband and I embarked on around the world, backpacking trip. And throughout our time, we visited six different countries over a 7 month period. South Africa was the first one, then we got to China. I can't remember the exact date but I remember it being early December. While we were in China we got a phone call from my mother in law saying that that Darren's sister had gone into labour and had a stillbirth. She needed seven pints of blood to keep her alive as her kidneys were failing. From then, I knew when I got back from this trip, I needed to sign up and become a donor.

So, I have done and am at donation number 17 now. I've been doing it for the past 13 years. Obviously stopping to have children, and then carrying on donating after that.

It really resonated with me as to how many people actually need to do it, and you can just save one life. That's all you do, even if you just do it once. That will save one person's life, and will save a whole family from the amount of grief, they would have had if you had not donated that blood.

So just give it a think. And certainly, jump on that bandwagon and do it and try and save someone else's life be that one amazing person today. Go and do it. Go and give them a call and find them.

I just feel that it's close to my heart as my auntie died of cancer in 2018 and my grandad August 2019 of cancer, both of them needing a huge amount of blood transfusions and to say I might have been one of those people whose blood they actually needed just to stay alive for 1 more day to say their goodbyes, to me that makes it all worth it.

Also if you ever needed blood, then I hope a kind hearted person would do the same as me and donate. It takes less than an hour and it's only every 3 months for men and every 4 months for women.

Do something amazing today. Give blood.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Let me know!

Have a blessed day!
