Avocado - The little oval health boost

Updated: Jan 28, 2021

We all know that this little oval fruit is one amazing health kick. I absolutely love them and always make sure I have half a one each day.

Avocado's start off their life from a tree and are actually a fruit rather than a vegetable. A lot of people including me call it a Superfood and I think it should

Avocados are a naturally nutrient-dense food and contain nearly 20 vitamins and minerals. This is huge as not many other fruits and vegetables can say that. They also have a huge amount of good fats (monounsaturated fatty acids). They are very high in fibre which can help improve digestion.

Eating avocados has so many benefits and most of all they are proven to reduce the risk of obesity, diabetes and heart disease. Plus they give you silky shiny hair, increased energy and helps with weight loss.

Avocado's are so nutrient rich. They contain vitamins C, E, K, and B-6, as well as riboflavin, niacin, folate, pantothenic acid, magnesium, and potassium. They also provide lutein, beta-carotene, and omega-3 fatty acids. Half an avocado provides at least 25% of the daily intake of Vitamin K. They even have more potassium than that of a banana.

A lot of people shy away from these beauties as they are seen to be high in fat and yes they are but the good fats. These fats help to keep you full and satiated. When you eat one of these, the brain receives signals telling it that the body is full and satisfied. Eating fat slows the breakdown of carbohydrates, which helps to keep sugar levels in the blood stable.

Eating good healthy fats also gives you good skin elasticity and it also enhances the immune response.

Avocado's contain folate which is needed for a healthy pregnancy and also helps to lower the risk of depression in some people. These little yummy fruits also contain a lot of antioxidants which have been proven to help your eye site.

They are incredibly healthy and are a sure way to get most of your daily nutrients from a half an avocado. Have you tried having Avocado oil drizzled onto salads or adding a drizzle to Avocado Toast?

One of my favourite ways to have these little beauties is to have them on Sourdough toast with smashed banana and them sliced on top. Absolutely incredible.

Here is the recipe.

- 1 or 2 Soughdough slices of bread

- Half an Avocado

- 1 Banana

- Honey to drizzle over or add some nut butter to it for more protein

Method-

1. Toast the bread

2. Slice the banana or mash it up

3. Slice the Avocado or mash it up

4. Once the toast is cooked layer the banana and then the Avocado on top or if using nut butter put this on the toast then add the rest.

5. Drizzle with honey or Avocado oil and add a sprinkle of chillies or pepper.

6. Sit down and enjoy.

Next time you do your grocery shopping, add this to your basket and reap the benefits. I promise you wont be disappointed.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Let me know!

Have a blessed day!
