Help, My Family IS To Much For Me During Lockdown

Updated: Jan 28, 2021

So we're now well into week 2 of Lockdown here in England and how are you all bearing up? Are you screaming and snapping at your children more often than usual? Are you managing to get any work done at all? I hope so (that you a are managing to get some work done, not screaming at the children ;o)) and I also hope that you are all working together as a team. The dynamics of the family home have changed with being around each other 24/7 so a little give and take is what's needed. Communication is also key.

My husband and I will have been together 20 years in June and we were having a family text conversation last week about what makes a successful partnership work. I said definitely communication. If things are getting on top of you then have the balls to just come out and say it. I've learnt that over the years. You cant bottle it up, otherwise there will be a big bust up.

Whenever you feel like you need to say something, just say it. You will get it off your chest, it will be out in the open and you can talk about it. It won't be consuming your thoughts, your energy and your being.  I'm finding it hard, well last week I did. The first week of Lockdown. I didn't know when I could fit in my yoga admin work, as all I was doing was looking after the children. The whole week was consumed by them. By Friday I was so stressed and quiet. I'm not normally like that. So I put my bad thoughts to one side, thought this next coming week, I'll get my admin done everyday for 1 hour. The children need to start to learn to play on their own. If they have arguments then I'm just going to have to let them sort it out. I need to do my work and this is only for 1 hour a day. I don't know how you guys are doing it if you've still got your 9-5 job working from home and childcare.  We'll look back at this time and think wow that was hard but it did give us more in a weird way. We will be thankful for a lot of things, things we used to take for granted.  I'm thankful for having a garden. I'm thankful that last year I spent the whole summer digging right at the top of our garden getting rid of bushes and making it into a flat area, so this year we could buy a trampoline so the children can use that area to. It's so beautiful, I can practice yoga on the grass with a wonderful view of the South Downs National Park while they are bouncing.  Yoga is really helping me to still feel calm and more relaxed. I think when everything gets on top of you, you can't think straight so take 5 minutes out to help yourself feel better at that certain point.

Take yourself outside and take some big deep breaths and really imagine your lungs expanding, filling with oxygen, filling with fresh clean air. That will do you the world of good.  Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love being with my children but you are also a person with needs. Everyone has different needs. I am a mum but I'm still Gemma. A person who still existed before children. I need to be me sometimes and not just mum so yoga really helps me in that way.  Maybe try and find something you used to like doing before becoming a parent which you feel has been lost. Even if you aren't a parent, try and find something you used to do before all this virus happened and you haven't done in ages. Notice how it makes you feel.  Well I'm going to love you and leave you and get back to my children. Hope this week of Lockdown is ok for you all.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Let me know!

Have a blessed day!
