Hello. I am Gemma, a certified and award-winning sex, relationship, and yoga coach. But before all the media features and accolades, I am a mum of two and the loving partner to my soulmate of 26 years. Yes, I am one of those sickeningly yucky people who met their partner at just 17 and have never left his side.
While I am living my absolute best life right now, it wasn’t always this way.
If you are currently feeling stressed, disconnected from your partner, or trapped in a career that drains you, I want you to know one thing: I have been exactly where you are standing right now.
The Broken Disney Princess Illusion
Back in 2006, to the outside world, I had it all. I had spent thousands of pounds and years of sacrifice climbing the ladder to become a Head Veterinary Nurse.
But on the inside? Something was deeply wrong.
The Physical Toll: I was so intensely stressed out that my hair was falling out in clumps.
The Disconnect: Working rotating night shifts meant I practically never saw my partner.
The Burnout: I was making silly mistakes at the clinic, which, in veterinary medicine, could have resulted in terrible accidents.
I desperately wanted that Disney princess life where I was supported by Prince Charming, but I felt deeply conflicted. Deep down, I still wanted a career and the ability to provide for my family. Every single day I would return home crying, stressed out, resenting my job, and then drowning in guilt for what I was putting myself and my partner through.
The breaking point arrived courtesy of a specific Vet who always had to have the last say. His attitude caused constant friction, putting immense pressure on the team. Realizing I had the rest of my working life to look forward to this misery, I decided to make it stop.
The 7-Month Reset
I walked through the front door one day and told my partner we needed a long holiday. It didn't take much persuasion. We booked a 7-month backpacking trip and left our lives completely behind to find some semblance of happiness.
Months 1–3 (South Africa & China): We spent our time going on safaris and camping out under the stars. I vividly remember looking up at the sky during a middle-of-the-night storm and feeling a profound sense of peace wash over me, as though all the stress had completely lifted from my shoulders.
Month 4 (Thailand): This became our ultimate turning point. It is by far the most chilled-out place I have ever visited. Everyone was happy, smiling, and friendly. It hit me hard: here I was with the prestigious job, the money, and the fabulous home, yet I was resenting my life. They didn’t have any of those material things, and they were truly happy.
Months 5–7 (Malaysia & New Zealand): This is where the physical transformation began. After hunting down that first yoga book, I spent my nights practicing moves in cramped hostel rooms before eventually investing in my very first real yoga mat in New Zealand, solidifying a plan to bring this new lifestyle back home to the UK.
Midway through our time in Thailand, while relaxing in a hammock on Ko Phangan beach, something caught my eye. A group of five Thai people were moving in perfect unison on the sand. I was completely mesmerised by how relaxed, calm, and happy they were.
My nan used to love yoga, but I had always dismissed it, choosing running, swimming, or cycling instead. But watching them made me realise: yoga isn't just about exercise; it's about finding inner peace through movement.
The image haunted me. Two weeks later in Malaysia, I hunted down a bookstore and bought An Idiot's Guide to Yoga. With zero equipment in a cramped hostel, I began practicing—falling over bunk beds and bruising my arms and legs, but instantly feeling lighter, more uplifted, and less stressed. By the time we hit New Zealand, I bought my first real mat.
The Missing Pieces of the Puzzle
When we returned to the UK, I made a rock-solid plan to keep up my practice. But as anyone in a high-intensity career knows, life got in the way. Medical emergencies ran through my lunch breaks, causing me to miss classes. I fell into a toxic cycle of guilt, frustration, and feeling like there was "no point" in trying.
It took trial and error across five different gyms and ten different classes before I finally found a teacher who truly cared.
Along our personal path, my partner and I also experienced the heartbreak of a miscarriage. For many couples, a tragedy like that marks the end of their relationship. But because we were beginning to prioritize our health and emotional alignment, it actually brought us closer together.
I soon realized that yoga wasn't the only thing keeping those people on the beach happy. It was a complete lifestyle shift:
Enjoying a clean, natural diet.
Surrounding themselves with people invested in their happiness.
Removing toxic chemicals from their skincare and home care.
When I applied all of these elements to my own life, my entire world shifted.
Uncover Your Own Intimacy Puzzle
Eighteen years later, I am still practicing yoga. I left the veterinary industry after 19 years to dedicate my life to helping others build unwavering self-confidence, self-worth, and self-respect through The Relationship Coach.
Because I chose to put my health first, I share a rock-solid relationship that I genuinely believe would have broken had we stayed on that stressful path in 2006.
My Philosophy: You do not need to see an expensive family therapist, completely change your core personality, or quit your job to save your relationship.
I have gone from a fractured, falling-apart relationship filled with resentment and arguments to a life of deep, joyful connection. Now, I teach these groundbreaking wellbeing techniques, including yoga, meditation, journaling, and EFT tapping, through a series of transformative online courses.
